I will be your guardian when all is crumbling. I’ll steady your hand.

However strong and secure it might seem, it never lasts. Perhaps we were careless or naïve to think that what we had would be forever. Perhaps we were simply willing to be blinded by security. We should have known better, we warriors and royals. I should have known better, but I was younger then, and wisdom comes with time. I arrived too late to be of much use to my queen or my princess, and could only watch as all that was dear to me was taken away. As she lay dying, Queen Serenity gave me one final mission. Centuries from now, my sister senshi and our enemy would be reincarnated on Earth with no memory of who they truly are. They would need guidance and protection, and I would be the one to provide it. I had failed my queen, my princess, and my sisters as a guardian, and I had failed them by not foreseeing this attack. I vowed to my queen and myself not to fail again. There are things about the universe, about the future that no one is meant to know, because the burden would be too great to bear. It was that… fear that had kept me from looking through the gates of time and foreseeing the attack that destroyed all that I loved. I would not make that mistake with my new mission. In solitude, I stood by my post making sure no being tried to slip through the gates between worlds, and watching, always watching the future that Queen Serenity had told me would be my sisters’ new time. The light of their star seeds were easy to follow at first, but then the future began shifting, darkening. Their future, our future, wasn’t yet determined. Instead, I would see flashes of what could be: a world ruled by Beryl where my sisters never awakened, a world where the battle left the Earth scarred and nearly destroyed along with my sisters, and less often, a world as peaceful as the Silver Millennium. In some futures, my sisters find the Silver Crystal and the princess, but still are defeated. In others, Beryl is untouchable with the power of the crystal in her possession. For years, decades, centuries, I watched and waited for the time when I would join my sisters, but even after so long I don’t know what the commonality is. I can’t see what event is pivotal in solidifying the future. But the time has arrived. The 21st century, as it’s called on Earth, is when my sisters and Beryl will be reborn. I don’t know what form they take now, and I don’t know which future we will find, but I will not fail again. I will find them. I will protect them. And we will fight for hope and peace, however fragile and fleeting it may be. |
