→ tonight's topic for discussion is immortality, & the human expansion to space
→ we now know through prodigious research the cause of aging. there are treatments right now that allow for the prevention of the degradation of the teleomeres that make us grow older. the question at hand this evening, therefore, is: why aren't we using this to prevent massive loss of life?
→ the answer is simple, in my opinion. overpopulation. which is why we ought to be expanding to space, going out to all those unpopulated planets in the universe and making them ours. perhaps even colonizing the ones here. there is plasticene to prevent burns on mercury; there is magnetic technology to keep us from being pulled into jupiter's core. if nothing else the moon is stable and close enough that we ought to be going forth to at least set up a permanent base, and yet, we do not.
→ please don't believe i'm proposing full-out paranoia, or that the government is trying to kill us.
→ i'm only proposing that perhaps, if we were to focus more on astrophysics and aeronautics, we might soon be able to stop planning for our inevitable doom, and begin choosing where in the universe we want to be when the sun explodes.
→ so i'll open the floor for discussion at this time.
→ anyone?[/style] [STYLE=text-align:right; font-family:terminal; font-size:10px; color:#111111; margin-top:-15px;]designed by NOWAKI of back to neverland.[/style]

• you make several good points and i agree with them all. with the available treatments already found and the ones that will be found in the following years why can't us as humans prevent the aging process and gain even more years on this planet, or on others as you are suggesting we do. overpopulation is a major threat, and would only become a bigger one if our aging was slowed or even halted. which is why i agree, if we expanded to such places as the moon and went about slowing our aging considerably or even ceasing it as a whole then we would have a solution. there would be no overpopulation on a single planet- at least not right away, and no mass panic. several of our problems would be solved and perhaps the world- or rather the universe- could finally start becoming something greater as destiny might just have it be if such advancements were made. to think of the possibilities that could be accomplished with the success of just one of these acts let alone both, how much more of our planets problems could be fixed. what a beautiful butterfly effect it would set off. as always there would be consequences and new problems shall as they always do arise, some possibly worse than what we are already facing, so i am wondering if the pro's outweigh the cons or if it is the other way around.
• either way, we, our government, does not seem to be making any real attempts to go about either of what you've proposed. the government seems to be against us, doesn't it. we are suppose to look to them and wait around for our inevitable doom while they go about striking war at every corner instead of massing their focus onto one similar goal that would benefit all. but what else can we do? i am not apart of the government and i am assuming that you are not as well, and even if we were no one person could have the power to go about such a grand thing. what are we civilians suppose to do but go on about our earth's many problems in online chat rooms.
• alas, i have strayed and rambled in the boredom that i am experiencing tonight. moving back to the original topic and saying in a much simpler form; i am with you completely. [/style][STYLE= text-align: center; width: 160px; font-family: tahoma; font-size: 10px;] MADE BY CYANIDE CANDY ✖[/style] |

→ no sarcasm hand.
→ i agree that sometimes you have to go around those in power to make a chance, but even if you do it's not guaranteed to be a bloodless one. there has never, not even once, in the history of the world been a regime change that was bloodless. ghandi tried, but failed--the british would not have stopped without the pressure of the world behind him. the other solution i speak of is so incredibly unlikely to work, largely because of the people involved, that i don't think it's even worth discussing. it's somewhat like asking "but what if gravity did go the other way"--it'd take a damned miracle for it to happen.
→ there isn't any pressure here and there never will be, because of people who think that their weak stomachs ought to define the future course of the world
→ all revolutions require death, it's sad but true
