[STYLE=font-family: georgia; font-size: 12px; text-align: justify; padding: 5px; width: 400px; margin-top: -30px;] The first time that she'd become Beryl, she hadn't anticipated the staggering change in wardrobe or accessories. Standing before the men in the alleyway, she had changed from frightened coed to nightmare--bitten nails became long, dark, sharp, spiderlike hands twining around a staff of vines and thorns, an amaranthine orb shedding blue lightning, a sheath dress that pooled on the ground at her feet--and though they had turned to run, they didn't escape, appearing instead in a nightmare world that Carson had known without needing to be told was her own. And they had died, ripped apart from the inside by the sparks she shed like a Tesla coil.
She had since traded the midnight sheath for a more reasonable night outfit--she couldn't ramble about looking like she'd stumbled out of the Metropolitan Gala, after all--coat, collared shirt, and a pair of comfortable walking boots. Didn't mean she forsook Dark Kingdom style; the staff she still clutched in her hand, and she could summon her amethyst orb to her if she needed it. Today, she didn't need it, and she hadn't needed the staff until just now.
"Please don't hurt me," gibbered the man at her feet, cringing away. It always amazed Beryl how they could be so pathetic and sad when faced with an unstoppable force, or when smashing themselves against the immovable object that was the Queen of the Dark Kingdom.
It amazed her, but never swayed her.
She crouched, easily lifting the man to his feet with one hand in his filthy t-shirt. "I'm not going to hurt you," she said, honey dripping from her words as she leaned her staff against the wall of the alleyway. "I'm going to make you more than you ever were alone. The Dark Kingdom will be your mother, and your father--your succor in times of need--" It never ceased to thrill her when her hand slipped through the sternum of humans, as the chaotic energy flowed down her arm and filled her newest recruit top-full of direst cruelty… Even his screaming faded quickly, lost in the glory of the power that Beryl could pull to the surface of her skin.
Of course the screaming would attract someone, especially as it increased in pitch and the man's voice began to fade, replaced by a monstrous cry. It would be another failure, Beryl thought, dropping her newest creature; already it began to twist, becoming a monster worthy of children's nightmares. She picked up her staff, turning to the mouth of the alleyway and the girl framed inside it. Brunette, young, no one Beryl recognized, and that meant that there wouldn't even be a you look like carson tokuno to get in her way if she happened to lose this one.
Besides, turning a cutpurse into a monster was not a crime. It probably would be, but blood needed to grease the wheels of life, and at least she'd chosen a worthless person to provide it. "Do you want to join him," she asked, a sardonic smirk gracing her red-painted lips. "Speak quickly, before he's done changing. Or even I won't be able to save you."[/style]

Once upon a time we fell apart. You're holding in your hands the two Halves of my heart. Once upon a time, we burned bright Now all we ever seem to do is fight On and on.[/style] | [classy=doctor]"Come see this play with us, Lune!" Her friends had been so genuine about the idea. Each of them had smiled at her sweetly, nodded eagerly, and batted their eyelashes. Of course Lune didn't refuse the opportunity.
"Amy's grounded. "Melissa has mono." "Tori's family is in town."
That morning, on the phone, Brittany had sounded hopeful enough. "It's just a cold!" She paused, coughing violently on the other side. "I'll meet you there at nine! Promise!" Though she had her doubts, Lune still prepared for the night, setting up a cab, double checking her pockets for tickets, and securing extra money from her mother as well. "Don't be gone too late," the words were an afterthought as she slid a fifty across the table, eyes dedicated to the essay in front of her.
She got in her cab, and muttered the address, and eventually paid him appropriately before sliding out to stand in front of the theater. It was small, much like the production, and against the brightly lit venues that surrounded it, it was merely a spec. Lune stood next to the doors with her arms crossed, occasionally sparing a glance to her phone. That glance turned anxious over the course of twenty minutes. Brittany was no where to be seen, the play was already five minutes in, and her phone was on the verge of death. When she wasn't mentally degrading herself for not charging the damned thing, she was making up her mind on what exactly to do.
Ten more minutes passed. With her phone dead and her friend absent, Lune began to mindlessly walk around New York City at 10:30 PM. Actions like this were what made her the type of girl who was the perfect candidate for a missing person's report. But hey, maybe that would finally be dramatic enough to assert her mother's attention.
Lune carried on silently, debating between actually walking home or simply using the rest of her money to get as far as she could. Twenty dollars would only get her so far, though. A few more blocks of money saving walking wouldn't kill her. She occupied her hands as she walked forward, smoothing out the wrinkles of her dress, twisting her fingers together, brushing her loose hair back. Trivial actions that filled in the blank spaces of her mind. Until those spaces suddenly became filled with a terrified noise.
She stopped in her tracks, looking around wildly, eyes wide open and a gross feeling erupting underneath her skin. As if carried by instinct, she began to follow the screams, not exactly prepared to face what was causing them. Her fast walk broke out into a run, and the citizens that she zoomed past only winced at the shrieks. Cowards, she thought bitterly, but of course, what would she do once she reached the problem? Fight? Ridiculous.
She continued running, eventually loosing the comfortable amount of air to keep her going, and Lune found herself heaving when the screaming began to transform into something much more nail biting than just a scream.
A sudden turn into a dark alley way, the worst place possible for such a confrontation, and she found herself looking at most disturbing thing her eyes had ever landed on. The screams were now the noises of a monster- one that was taking shape on the ground, and a just a horrible looking woman stood in front of him. Without any warning, she pointed what seemed to be a staff towards Lune, who jumped back at the motion.
"This is impossible," she wanted to scream in sheer terror. To cry. To run away. To do something rational. To wake up from the nightmare that she was having; she was frozen and awake. "This isn't real. This isn't happening. This can't be happening." The comforting world of reality was breaking apart all around her, though, and all that she could do was stare. Her breathing transformed from ragged to shallow and quick.
"Speak quickly, before he's done changing. Or even I won't be able to save you." Speak? The man on the ground was hardly a man anymore, and the only words that came to mind of proper use were monster, demon, creature.
Speak.
Use words.
The possibility of doing such a thing was strange to her now, but nonetheless...
"STOP IT," she screamed the command out, and the sound was terrified, pathetic, and senseless. "STOP IT NOW." It was not Lune who took the brazen step forward. It wasn't Lune who thought there was a small chance of saving the one in front of her. It was a hopeful idiot who had taken control of her motions and words. [STYLE=font-family: georgia; font-size: 12px; text-align: justify; padding: 5px; width: 400px; margin-top: -30px;] Well!
In the grand scheme of fight or flight, it seemed that the brunette had chosen to fight. Too bad no civilian stood a chance against the monsters she created in an attempt to create superior humans, humans like she remembered her Generals being; if they had, then surely there would be fewer disappearances, more maimings, and more stories of horrific creatures plaguing Manhattan. Perhaps even some soulless bodies left lying around, she didn't know. She only knew that the youma came back to her with so much precious, brilliant energy. That the monsters served her honorably and well. She would love them, if they weren't so blunt, so unnecessary and so cruel. As long as they were proverbial sledgehammers as opposed to the delicate knives she needed to peel back the masquerade, she would give them no more care than she had to.
"I can't," said Beryl, unsurprised at the girl's vehemence. If she had seen such a thing, before learning the reasoning behind it. "He was too weak. He couldn't contain the power I offered him." Offered was a bit weak for what she had done. She had forced it upon him and he'd had no choice but to accept her gift. And he'd done it while screaming for mercy, for his mother, for a God who could not be rationally proven to exist.
The only living God she knew of… was herself.
But maybe, someone who heard screams and ran towards them, someone who confronted someone hurting another, maybe that person could withstand the energies required? Maybe that person would contain the iron-clad sense of self she began to believe was needed by all who would become a General of the Dark Kingdom. At the thought, dark lightning sprouted at Beryl's fingertips, the color shining bright through her tinted nails. "Come here," she said, extending that hand as it shed lightning. "Come here, join me, and you can help me bring about a world of shining beauty and glorious perfection. I can see now that you're afraid; join me, and I will make you brave. I can see you are weak; join me, and I can make you strong." It was a speech she had rehearsed since the day she'd decided to try to expand her forces beyond four men and endless monsters; this was the first time she had tried it in her life. She tried not to look hopeful, but instead forbidding and powerful. Because she was forbidding, she was powerful, and she hoped that perhaps, this time…
The monster's screams were dimming to pitiful mewling, almost too quiet to hear. "What do you say, girl?"[/style]

Was this really an elaborate hoax? That's what she wished she could think, but the more deformed everything became, the more she knew she wouldn't be able to trick herself into thinking otherwise. "Why?" She wanted to rip her hair out of her scalp in frustration. "Why did I come here?"
The terrifying woman responded calmly to Lune's screaming, and each word was similar to a shot of novacaine numbing her body.
Lune swallowed dryly, wishing she had something to lean on. If it came down to it, what would she do? Fight? Flee? Her mind was racing at the possibilities, weighing a small list of pro's against a heavy list of con's. Of course she would flee. She wasn't a fighter in any meaning of the word, but against this thing? How far would her legs carry her before it caught up? Right now, it was sluggish, pitiful, but all the more horrifying with each second that passed.
Would she... would she die tonight?
Before she was able to answer the harrowing question, the woman stretched out an arm, beckoning Lune closer. Lightning danced around her hands- or, at least something that looked similar to Lightning, and when she spoke, it was as if Lune had no choice but to listen. Even the monster's screaming had toned down enough for the woman to be clearly understood. The offer she made, did it ensure safety? Or a fate similar to the creature in front of her? She wanted to shake her head slowly, to flat out refuse.
"What do you say, girl?"
With no indication as to why, Lune glanced up towards the sky. New York City had a knack for blinding out the stars in the sky, but it could never do away with the moon, which was full and bright that night. Her eyes eventually wavered down back to the woman after a few silent seconds. "N- no." She stammered it out in an attempt to sound as determined as she could. She said the word again, without a stutter this time.

[STYLE=font-family: georgia; font-size: 12px; text-align: justify; padding: 5px; width: 400px; margin-top: -30px;] "The moon won't save you," said Beryl impatiently. The damned princess wasn't even around anymore, the Dark Queen had seen neither hide nor hair of her, and yet people still looked to her--even unknowing! It was disgusting. Enough to make one's stomach turn, if one's stomach could turn over such pitiful faith to an antediluvian artifact of the past. People were weak; she had to make them better.
And when the answer came, Beryl sighed, her snarl melting away into the look a disappointed parent might wear. "I'm sorry to hear that," she said, genuine regret. The girl didn't seem to have the guts to take a risk, and that was one thing she didn't want in the Dark Kingdom--cowardice. "So be it!" Her voice wasn't angry; it was loud, but level, and tinged with the disappointment that came from her expression. "So be it."
With that parting shot, the Dark Queen teleported away. One minute she was there, and the next, she was gone as if she had never been.[/style]

A few minutes before, the monster had been a young man with a bright future, or so the young man had thought. Fewer minutes ago, he had encountered a pretty woman in an expensive coat when he tried to steal her wallet. When he found no wallet, and the woman's hand around his throat, he'd tried bargaining. He'd tried defiance, and anger, and depression. And in the end, she'd done it anyway, sticking her hand in his chest and then he was screaming for real.
Now he was gone, who-ever he was, and instead in his place lurked a monster. All over black, but for silver vein traceries, it held in its hands the scales that had never come down in its favor. There was no face but for a massive, grinning mouth, pearly white teeth oddly incongruous in a mouth like an open gash in the creature's face. The worst part was the way it still stood like a human--but then it was moving, and all resemblance to a human being was gone. "I'll make you pay," it shrieked, in a cacophony of voices--some speaking English, but the rest… the rest of the words were utterly incomprehensible as the thing continued to mutate, even as it aimed to bring the scales down on its victim's brunette head.

She sensed an evil presence, one that she recognized all too well. She didn't know why she started running towards the source of the screaming. All she knew was that something was happening, and she had to see what is was with her own eyes. Reaching her destination, she grew wide eyed as a dark haired woman stuck a hand into an innocent man's chest, causing him to mutate into a horrific monster. She knew this power... It belonged to the queen of the Dark Kingdom, Beryl. How she knew this, she didn't have a clue. It must have been the other part of her, Luna, informing her.
Seeing another female arrive, she felt a strange pulse through the air. Her eyes widened more as she sensed a pure kind of power coming from the young girl. Could she be...? Seeing Beryl disappear, she stood her ground as the former human continued to take shape into the monster he was becoming. She turned to the young woman once more and a determined look crossed her features. She had to be one of the girls she was looking for... One of the five senshi. She felt another strange pulse go throughout her body, and closed her eyes as she began to concentrate hard. In what seemed to be in an instant, Nayru transformed into a black cat, a crescent moon on her forehead as she looked up at the frightened woman.
"Snap out of it!" she called out to her, trying to get her attention. She hissed at the monster and then dashed forward, about to perform a back flip with her eyes shut tight once more. She concentrated with all her might, picturing a pen/compact that suited this new senshi warrior. Once in the air, she performed a successful back flip, a white henshin pen/compact with a crescent moon on the top dropping to the ground near the woman's feet. Landing on all fours, she gazed her golden eyes up at Lune.

Instead, Lune was hanging from above, gazing down upon the mess taking place below her. It was a strange feeling, but it was safer than the one that facing things immediately in front of her dealt her. The man was a monster. Black, terrifying, and unrecognizable from only seconds ago, and she was a limp rag doll ready to be tossed around. What else could she do other than take the full measure of the consequences she had earned for herself.
Nothing was going quite as planned tonight, though.
A voice snapped at her, pulling her back into her own body, and she whipped around looking for the source. "W-what?" She could feel tears start flood her eyes, and as much as she hated crying, there wasn't much she could do to stop herself. A cat had appeared in front of her, and a white pen lay at her feet. With no other idea of what to do, she snatched it up and stumbled backwards.
Was the cat talking to her?
After all, stranger things had happened.
"Wh- what do I DO!?" she screamed the question, and tears began to roll hotly down her cheeks. She clutched the pen tightly though, and while she was terrified, she suddenly felt a strange energy begin to run through her body. There was something about Chaos energy that just made the monsters go haywire. Perhaps as a human he might have felt pity for the crying girl; now he just hungered. "You die," it snapped, hauling its silver weapon out of the massive dents in the concrete. Though it ran quickly, its strike had been ponderously slow, and the monster was still hauling back the enormous scales when the brunette obtained her henshin pen. "You too!" That to the small cat, and it turned its strike towards Luna before emitting an ear-piercing scream, the kind that people with sensitive ears would despise. For truly sensitive ears, it might even incapacitate them--which was the youma's goal all along...

And from the shadows at the back of an alley came an undoubtedly sarcastic "Mow."
A ginger tabby hopped from the shadows, green eyes oddly bright and a strange white sun marking in the middle of its forehead. "You say 'Moon Prism Power, Make Up,'" said the cat, swishing its tail as if sweeping the dirty asphalt of the alley; the youma, distracted, attempted to slash at the cat, but it jumped nimbly out of the way and into the shadows again.
Lune got one more "MooooOOOOooooow" before the cat's tail vanished into the darkness.

Once upon a time, we burned bright Now all we ever seem to do is fight On and on.[/style] | [classy=doctor]Lune fell backwards in an attempt to distance herself from the monster, landing with a thump on the ground. She still had a deadly grip on the pen. Not as if that mattered though, because it's arm was raising up once more to deliver the life ending blow to the cowering young girl. She could taste bitter tears on her tongue, feel herself shaking, and instinctively she prepared herself for the hit, tensing up and shutting her eyes.
But a sound disrupted the chaotic air, and Lune opened her eyes.
"You say Moon Prism Power Make-Up."
The second cat distracted the youma well enough for it to redirect its blow, but it easily escaped the attack, disappearing with one more yowl following its trail.
It was time to react quickly.
She pushed herself up, taking a few more steps back, still shaking, but with her eyes now on the henshin pen. "M- moon," her voice was unsteady, but with the one word the pen began to emit a steady white glow. The light was comforting enough in that split to make her feel confident.
"Moon Prism Power Make-Up!"
And the faint glow was now an overpowering light. There was nothing else for her to know other than the white light and the warmth that hugged her. She was lifted from the ground as if she were weightless, and like magic, things began to change.
A pivotal moment. A new chapter.
The light faded, and her feet planted themselves firmly back onto the ground. Her gaze was no longer afraid- unsure, certainly, but she knew well enough what to do now. Nothing made sense, but none of that mattered at the moment. Survival was the only thing worth fighting for. She was dressed in an outfit that felt strange, and she would have been uncomfortable if had half a mind to be. A small skirt, high boots, long gloves- a sailor fuku highlighted by red and blue. Her hair was neat and styled, and a golden tiara now rested on her forehead.
Sailor Moon took a step forward. She threatened to shake, revealing how uneasy she actually was, but instead she managed to stop herself from doing so. She couldn't be weak right now.
The Youma brought its arm down for another attempt at hitting her. It barely missed her and her new confidence, and Lune jumped backwards, avoiding it much more swiftly than she had minutes ago.
"I'm sorry," was the only thing she could say. Could he- it even understand what sorry meant? And she genuinely meant it as she thought of the man that the monster was only a few moments ago. She swallowed dryly, quickly reaching a hand up to pull the tiara from her forehead.
"Moon Tiara Action!" She shouted the attack, throwing her tiara forward. As soon as it left her hands, she felt unsure, wondering if the attack would even work? What did it even do? It was simply a command issued in her mind, and the only thing she could do was follow. As it flew through the air though, spinning like a boomerang, it changed from a tiara into a glowing white disk of pure energy.[classy=faust][/classy][classy=faustus]idk words, tagged: carson[/classy][/classy][/style] | [style=background-color: e9a9d8; color: cfcdce; font-size: 9px; font-family: verdana; text-transform: uppercase; padding: 15 20; text-align: justify;]NOTES: Lol Idk B)[/style] |

The youma had half a moment before the spinning disc tore through its abdomen, slicing it cleanly in half. There was a drawn-out, fading howl as the thing turned black, as if the disc had burned, and fell to ashes on the asphalt.
The whole thing had happened in a matter of minutes.
